Coachella Valley FCA in the NEWS

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) gathered in early December to honor Coaches throughout the Coachella Valley for their commitment to sharing the Word of God after practice, with their athletes, through FCA huddles.  Nearly every school had a Varsity Coach represented along with several coaches from College of the Desert.  One of only a few opportunities left to see the Gospel shared on our Public School Campuses, FCA takes this mission seriously. Their Campus Ministry currently reaches over twenty of our Valley’s Schools with weekly huddles and outreaches to both our schools’ Coaches and Campus Athletes.  With almost 250 Campuses throughout Riverside County the opportunity to get involved through prayer, support, or joining the FCA Advisory Board and/or a Ministry or Committee team abounds.

Over 100 people gathered in mid December fundraisers to benefit the 2008 FCA Summer Sports Camp raising almost $3,500 and awareness for this incredible outreach and ministry.  FCA Summer Sports Camp is a week of intense athletic instruction and inspiration for boys and girls ages 13 through 18 at the beautiful University of California Santa Barbara.

FCA Sports Camp features the best instruction by professional and collegiate coaches and athlete’s in 12 different sports including Football, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, Volley Ball, Water Polo, Wrestling, Lacrosse, Golf, Track and Surfing. In 2007 FCA raised over $50,000 to send 89 high school athletes from the Coachella Valley to the FCA Sports Camp. More can be learned about the camp at http://www.fcasportscamp.com. The Coaches, Campus and Camp Ministry represent three of the FCA’s four C’s of Ministry: Campus, Coaches, Camps and Community. 

In early 2008 the Coachella Valley FCA Community Ministry will see a visit from Les Steckel, whose professional coaching career included 23 seasons with the NFL.  Steckel is the President of FCA, and hosts the Nationally Broadcasted, STV (Sharing the Victory) Radio Program.
